Sweet Harmony: An Off-the-Grid Home in Idaho

Built for Stephen and Andrea Lyman, Anavo is a unique residence. In addition to being the co-general contractor, Bob focused on finish work, cabinets and built-in furniture featuring a blending of log work and fine furniture.

Bob is grateful for the opportunity to have worked closely with Andrea and Stephen Lyman. As a couple, and individually, they were powerfully focused on their artistic goals. The majority of the work was completed from both Stephen and Andrea’s extemporaneous sketches, usually created on-site. To see more of Stephen’s incredible work, CLICK HERE

This residence was one of the first off-the-grid, green designs built in the greater Sandpoint area, starting in 1992 and coming to fruition in 1997. The Lyman’s focus was on environmental awareness, mindfulness of nature and living in harmony with the earth.

A portion of the home’s electric requirement is powered by an extensive solar collection system. Specific placement of the home on the site, in conjunction with aggressive window placement, yields high passive solar heating benefits. This reliance on and reverence for the natural world is reflected in the organic surfaces and non-toxic, recycled materials featured throughout this truly one-of-a-kind home.
